I believe that black women are stereotyped in media. Even the “strong, proud, black woman” spritual earth-mother image as embodied by Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelou has become a sort of homogenized caricature that doesn’t give black women much latitude to express their true diversity.
I’d love to see more black female intellectuals and radicals moving up to the fore, and performers like Skunk Anansie, who deviate dramatically from the conventional hip-hop scene.
