This question came to me while covering the March Against Hate Crimes. I know many asked after the Jena March, “What good did it do?” I think both marches were a good thing and will eventually turn into something much more important than marches. So what’s your opinion on this? Give your answer here: http://www.letstalkhonestly.com/LTHQOTW.html
|
Yes, thing help to bring the countries attention to important issues. |
|
No, people march then go home and don’t do anything. |
|
They don’t immediately solve anything but they do help to galvanize people. |

Hi this is George Cook of www.letstalkhonestly.com I would like to than Angelique Lewis an up and coming civil rights activist in Washington D.C. who planned the Jena 6 rally in D.C. and who was an integral part of planning the March Against Hate Crimes march for getting me a press pass so that I could cover the march from the inside. This was a great learning experience and it also let me see how certain people act when they are conducting business and it was really eye opening. It was also great to be a part of a march and movement that continues what Martin Luther King , our grandparents, and parents started. Click the link below to watch some great video I got which includes the complete speeches of Al Sharpton, Martin Luther King III, and Steve Harvey

Now as one who was very close to this story it pains me to have to even post this, but it is the right thing to do. As far as I am concerned Michael Baisden has already done irreparable damage to the Jena 6 cause and to the African American Online Community which rallied to the defense of the Jena 6 so this shouldn’t make much difference. To ignore it would show a lack of integrity. It really hurts me because I devoted months to this cause even speaking at a rally in Washington D.C. in front of the U.S. Capital to help the Jena 6. I am starting to wonder if I and others were played for fools. ( At the moment I still think we did the right thing. )
It seems that many more questions are being raised about the Jena 6 funds and the Chicago Tribune has ran a story on this topic. Please use the link below to read the story:

The case of the Jena 6 has made it to Congress .The House Judiciary committee is holding hearings on the case during which Donald Washington, U.S. attorney for Louisiana’s Western District, testified that the Justice Department was “actively engaged” in the case. But he said the department decided not to pursue hate crime prosecution of the white students over the noose incident because the school had already disciplined them and because they were juveniles???? After having a “talk” with Governor Kathleen Blanco LaSalle Parish DA Reed Walters has “decided” not to challenge a ruling that sent the case to juvenile court. It’s a decision could lead to a lower bail and Mychal Bell could be free soon. While I am thankful I am wondering what to her so long to “talk ” to Reed Walters. The case of Juan Rayford Jr.
Jena Louisiana is not the only place where racial injustice is taking place in the United States. I was contacted by a father trying desperately trying to get justice for his son in Los Angeles County California. His son 18 yr old Juan Rayford Jr. was sentenced to 220 tears on 11 counts of attempted murder because SOMEONE shot into a house with 11 people inside although no witnesses or evidence can put the gun in his hand. Also:
Like the Jena case no defense was put on by the public defender
The bail was set at 11 million dollars
The sentence clearly violates the Eight Amendment of the United States Constitution which protects against cruel and unusual punishment.
