Should Spike Lee title his next movie about the violence in Chicago “Chiraq”

19 Apr

Director Spike Lee is making a new film for Amazon studios which has already become the focus for controversy for it’s working title, “Chiraq”. The movie will focus on the Chicago community of Englewood and the “black on black violence that occurs there. Some in Chicago including Mayor Emanuel are not happy about the title. Some believe that it negatively portrays the city and in some way endorses the violence while others believe that it describes the state of violence in the city right now. What do you think about the title? Should Spike Lee keep it or drop it out of respect for those in Chicago against the use of that title and that have to live with the violence everyday? The 2010 best supporting actress winner for ‘Precious’ — who refused to campaign for her award — says she was told by her director Lee Daniels that the perception is she’s “difficult” and “tacky,” and she’s lost out on several roles as a result. – See more at: http://www.africanamericanreports.com/2015/02/monique-i-was-blackballed-after-winning.html

The walking Dead’s add a black guy, kill a black guy rule

10 Feb

TyreseNow let me first state that I love AMC’s The Walking Dead, it’s my favorite TV show. It’s also one of the most diverse shows on television But I have noticed one troublesome trend, being the old black male character when a new black male character shows up is the equivalent of being a “red shirt” on Star Trek. I like to call it the add a black man kill a black man rule. – See more at: http://www.africanamericanreports.com/2015/02/the-walking-deads-add-one-black-man.html

Was Selma’s best picture nomination a makeup call?

16 Jan

If you have ever watched a basketball game you know there’s something known as a “makeup” call. That’s when the referees make a bad or questionable call on one team and then make it up to that team by making a bad call the other way. No referee will admit this happens, but we all know that it does. I think that’s what happened with Selma getting a besat picture nomination. – See more at: http://www.africanamericanreports.com/2015/01/was-selmas-best-picture-nomination-make.html

THOMPSON: A Free Dead War Series Short Story

THOMPSON: A Free Dead War Series Short Story

THOMPSON takes place during the events of The Dead War Series Book One. For a brief moment the two stories actually intersect with a character that you might recognize from book one although that character is not actually named in THOMPSON. I wrote Thompson because I noticed that there were a lack of strong and heroic women in book one. That was later corrected in books two and three with the addition of Gabbard and Sgt. Manning. I hope that you enjoy this short story. If you have read book one it should fill in a gap for you about a particular scene and if you have not I hope it gets you to want to check out book one. – See more at: http://www.thedeadwarseries.com/2013/12/thompson-free-dead-war-series-short.html
