For a guy who took a “shellacking” in the midterm elections six weeks ago, President Obama is doing pretty well during this lame-duck political period. There’s the tax cut/unemployment deal. He got a trade deal with South Korea. Saturday he saw a huge win in the demise of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban on gays . Black mayors struggling in post racial America

Many thought that being a black elected official in a “post-racial” society would be great. But for black mayors of large cities it has not been a great time. Adrian Fenty begun the process of fixing Washington DC and for his efforts lost his primary race. Dave Bing of Detroit has been accused of a racial cleaning. Some in Philadelphia are challenging Michael Nutter’s “blackness”, and Cory Booker has lowered the murder rate in Newark NJ and gotten back control of the Newark School system from the state and he is as popular as a black man at a KKK rally. What’s going on here?

Mayor Fenty reforming Washington DC schools equals no reelection?

This is one of those instances that remind you of the old saying that no good deed goes unpunished. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty fought for and gained control of DC schools after which he inserted Michelle Rhee as schools chancellor. The schools have improved bu…t the very people’s children who are benefiting from this have no love for Rhee or Fenty because they think they are reforming too fast?????
